Benefit for San Luis Valley Habitat for Humanity

On his 10th year anniversary ride, veteran Habitat cyclist Tim Dellett is pedaling 2,500 miles to benefit San Luis Valley Habitat for Humanity. From the Washington coast to Minnesota, along the way he will visit Habitat affiliates, connect with other communities, and take in the greatness of our country and its people.

This 6 week epic bicycle journey will begin June 4 and join up in July with the Habitat 500 ride coordinated by Habitat for Humanity Minnesota. Using pedal power as an expression of "love in action," Tim's pedaling goal is to raise $50,000 for affordable housing in the San Luis Valley.

To be a sponsor of the Habitat 2500, send your pledge to SLV Habitat for Humanity at P.O. Box 1197; Alamosa, CO 81101 (note Habitat 2500 on your check). Donations over $100 are eligible for Enterprise Zone Tax Credit in Colorado.

For Tim, riding his bike for Habitat is a simple way to give back to the community.

We have a great time building adobe homes, an incredible experience in God's awesome playground, We are located in south-central rural Colorado in the world's largest alpine valley. Our Valley is roughly the size of Connecticut surrounded by the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Alamosa hosts a population of 10,000: 2,000 make up the campus of Adams State College. Our Valley is culturally rich with large areas of old Spanish land grants and is still populated by many descendents of the original settlers. With over 320 days of sunshine year-round, we take advantage of nature's gifts and build passive solar adobe homes. Started in 1994, we have built one new home a year.

WORKGROUP MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Come Hike & Build! You will have a great time building adobe homes with SLV Habitat and an incredible experience in God's awesome playground. We are located in southern Colorado in the center of the San Luis Valley, the world's largest alpine valley. The Valley is roughly the size of Connecticut surrounded by the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo Mountains with a total population of 40,000 people. Our mountains offer great hiking, rafting, hot springs, skiing or snow-shoeing, and the Great Sand Dunes National Monument.

We love to share adobe building and the stucco experience. Volunteer workgroups are our major source of volunteer labor as well as construction funding. The specific tasks for the workweek will depend on our construction stage and the abilities of your group. We ask you to bring leaders skilled in people coordination. Our affiliate asks for a donation of $200 per volunteer, per week to help cover the cost of building materials. Volunteers on the worksite must be 15 years of age or older.

Because of the growing interest in workgroups, we suggest scheduling your workgroup well in advance, our calendars do book up early. We have a great time building and playing. Come build adobe homes and visit the forever reaching blue skies.
