History and Mission

In 2008 HFHC celebrated the 1000th home built in Colorado. This milestone home, built by HFH of the Saint Vrain Valley, launched a campaign to build 1000 more homes in Colorado and abroad in just 3 years. The 1000 Homes Campaign was kicked off in partnership with the HFH of Eagle Lake Counties, with four homes dedicated in Edwards, Colorado.

Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver was the first affiliate in Colorado founded in 1979. Today 29 affiliates are building safe, decent, affordable homes in 42 Colorado communities for hardworking, low income families.

Founded in 1992 by 10 affiliates, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation whose purpose is to build the capacity of affiliates by increasing access to resources, facilitating communication between affiliates and the community, and providing statewide leadership toward the creation of thriving communities that support healthy families.

Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Habitat for Humanity builds simple houses with a no-profit, no-interest mortgages, thereby making the mortgage payment affordable to families with low incomes. Partner families are expected to invest their own labor into the building of their home and the houses of other families.
